Just made a test fort with the calculation cap removed
« on: June 26, 2018, 09:02:45 pm »

At first I thought I had somehow turned on the 'fast dwarf' command in DFHack.  Nope.  Removing the cap caused my Dwarves to move at ludicrous speed, at least initially.  Obviously this will go down with FPS over time, but I was actually a little frightened to see my Dorfs moving that fast :o  I might put the calculation cap back at 120-180, just to take stock of things and appreciate them running around & working.

Do you mean the FPS cap?  I removed it on a 1x1 embark with 7 dwarfs.  The FPS actually *overflowed* (i.e. was reported as a large negative number).  I think I had the redraw rate at 20 FPS and it was unusable.  Things were just blitting all over everywhere.

There are two FPS settings; one is calculation (game speed), the other is graphical (displaying those calculations as they change).  Sounds like your graphics FPS was unable to keep up with calculations (things were happening faster than your PC could display it).  This has something to do with monitor refresh rate, but that's as advanced as I understand it.

Oh yeah, they look ludicrous but it definitely makes the fort much more efficient. Saves a ton of time. Once you get used to it, you'll never go back mwhahaha.
