Scrap: Mad Séance
Before the modern era, magic was the domain of sorcerers, monsters, and otherworldly forces. That state of affairs ended when alchemists began using magical materials in their concoctions, a development that provided arcane power to anyone with more curiosity than sense. Machinists are still experimenting with the strange mixture of clockwork, arcana, and biology they pioneered, though they've become far more cautious with time.
Modern-day magicians have built empires and flown beyond the boundaries of the universe, but they've also uncovered magic that was better left alone. It took a few razed cities and mystical disaster areas for the public to realize that the arcane isn't all butterflies and flowers. Devils in the wilderness and living ooze in the sewers drove the point home.
Flying over a disaster area at three hundred miles an hour has made you acutely aware of them.
The Luminous Empire uses the Wastes as a dumping ground. Everything too dangerous to imprison and too inconvenient to destroy is carted off to the north, where it can be released without attracting any notice. A generation's worth of exiled machinists, half-bound spirits, and failed experiments have turned ordinary badlands into a hodgepodge of magical warzones.
That would be fine, if you were still stationed in cities half a continent away. But the Empire also decided to send a surveying team into the heart of the wastes, in hopes of finding useful new magic and land safe enough to be reclaimed. Bureaucrats drew lots, selected a group of machinists with too little influence to wiggle their way out, and sent them on a suicide mission.
Unfortunately, that's where you come in.

Scrap is a fast-paced game that will take place over discord. For the most part, it'll be handled on an action-by-action basis rather than having discrete turns.
As the title and description suggest, making magical devices and learning about magic will be major parts of the game. This isn't abstracted, which is to say that you can actually find or create new components and think up devices which use them.
More standard exploration, combat, and adventure are also included.
