This would be accomplished by highlighting every other item in dark gray rather than black.

This would apply to almost every list, including combat logs, workshop lists, announcements, all of the horrifyingly cluttered adventure mode menus, everything. It would make everything easier to read for everybody.

It could be toggled for anyone who doesn’t want this.

Certainly seems a worthwhile feature to me. One thing to keep in mind though, is that Toady doesn't seem to plan on working much with the UI until more core features are present.

This is likely the reason why controlling your little beardlings (especially labours) is such utter hell. I expect all these things will change massively when the time comes.

yes, this could help make reading lists less a pain in the eyes.
