“Stomping” should be an attack type.

It would be more/less effective based on the attacker’s size and weight verses the defender’s.

For example, if you were attacked by a crab in adventure mode, stomping on it would likely crush it. Dwarves may stomp untamed vermin that they hate.

On the other hand, a bronze colossus would easily kill a dwarf my stomping on it.

You cannot stomp a creature that is larger than yourself, or if you have no feet.

perhaps it could be that the kick attack is automatically changed to "stomp" when certain criteria are met? another place this would be useful is delivering some finishing blows to adversaries who have fallen over.

All attacks are currently regarded as though the target is placed against a solid surface.  Perhaps when combat physics are more realistic, attacking a prone opponent could use the current system, effectively turning kicks into stomps.

this makes sense, but those are still two different things.

Kicking is using your leg's force to deliver a blow, whilst stomping is using your leg to apply your body weight.
