If this were due to a typo, I would expect to see gaps in these clusters (which there are not), or sites in the middle of the ocean (unless there's something preventing that).

It could be partly due to overpopulation from a lack of enemies.

There was a typo in the siegers' campfire code. When the fires went out, so did the game.

man i hope you saved that world!

if you did, pls check if there all the same civilisation.
After I checked, I find that the trenches originated from 2 fortresses of 2 different civs. Maybe the goblins have OCD
