Drifting in Adventure Mode

Has anyone ever used Adventure Mode to just go for a walk, take in the sights, and monitor the PC's feelings?

It might make for an interesting story, different from the "rise and fall" stories seen in Dwarf Mode.

I'd do it myself, but I have no idea how to Adventure Mode.

I try that about every single time I play adventure mode. The problem arises when I experience, in the words of Yahtzee Croshaw, "Bored now!" Usually I've made my way over one village before suddenly, inexplicably, I feel that the scenery needs to be painted red. Whether I'm slitting throats or throwing daggers depends on if it's night or not. It must be horrifying for the locals.

oh that kind of drifting... here I thought you meant Minecart drifting
i kinda do both with my "no-kill tracked to you" runs of the game. which mostly ends up being taking in sights, building stuff, and running away from hostile forces...

I think to avoid the "boring now" that is going to happen with a character simply walking around  is to :
- play as a peasant , not as a hero or demigod, it changes a lot how the game AI reacts to you, making things a lot more interesting than "everyone is ultra passive" or "everyone is too afraid and run away when you walk around" situations.
- go and play 34.11 or lesser , mostly due to walking around being much more dangerous and much less predictable (ambushes and other threats by example does not show themselves as a * to you from afar in the world map), making the player more alert and so helping to move the "boring now" to a much later time in your wanderings.
-do not think that having bogeymen enabled will make things better to keep the solo wanderer happy, while it can lead to interesting things happening rarely, most of the time it's just a game over coming without any interest generated there.

Now for great locations to wander around and avoid the always boring "oh i saw that same convulated plain and hill with that same damned river on hundred of world" that will always be a problem for adventure mode explorers, it's difficult and you're completely dependant on the worldgen results.

You may check some of those following worldgen example in the hope one may generate a world with better locations to wander around than your usual attempts

you can also take up a side task like practicing a small non combat skill and learning tales and stories of events to talk about later.
be a demi god but dump all your points into non combat and crafting skills so that your technically playing a peasant but a legendary bard way.

Adventure mode still has that Rise and fall bit just now more personal and currently the new version of the game seem to be alot more hostile if you just hold restraint on attacking everyone until they start charging at you.

Currently I'm wandering around picking up items giving them names then sticking them on pedestals when I walk into a keep.

There is this bug that is a part of the problem, while the bug itself mention bronze colossus, it has happened to mostly every creatures that aren't turning hostile when they should.

It's supposedly fixed for the coming DF version, hopefully Toady didn't fixed it only for bronze colossus.

Currently I'm wandering around picking up items giving them names then sticking them on pedestals when I walk into a keep.

I was doing that with one of my recent adventurer, but with night creatures heads, coming back to my lord meadhall and putting them on display with all those empty pedestals found there.
Until we ran into a night troll that wasn't as weak as the other night monsters we hunted and wiped out our small party in no time.

I wish it were possible in dwarf mode to see exactly where each dwarf's feelings were generated.  Sometimes, you can guess, like when it says, "he was upset after seeing a troglodyte die."  It's easy to guess where that feeling happened. If we could know this about all feelings, we could produce a psychogeographic map of the fort. How cool would that be! The data is already there.

A dfhack plugin could do this, if only I could program a computer....

so the thing I notice was that the beasts seem to instant aggro when someone talks about the person.
a bronze colossus would more likely be re-aggro if the adventurer just ask someone about the bronze colossus near the bronze colossus.
then again I seen the creatures take time to attack a random person if you leave one near a group for some time.

now seeing the bug report it seems like the megabeasts just chilling til you provoke them. which added to the findings of someone talking about a megabeast seems to make this version of DF the Megabeasts are ok until you Hurt them both physically or emotionally.

It looks like the location where it happened isn't stored in the record of the emotion.  You'll have to make a feature request to Toady.

I had experience of seeing a forgotten beast straight up attack my companions after asking one of them about the beast.
luckly the FB avoided attacking me during the mess. so chances are the ai are neutral on others until proven to be an enemy.
