So how would I make indoor gates I can open and close with levers. Kind of like Kruggsmash's Steelclutches fort with all the small 2 by 3 gates hooked up to levers. Also how do I make garbage compactors(Or atom smashers? is that what there called?)? So I can just make a dump pile full of rocks and refuse and destroy them.

All of these are made using retractable bridges.

When you 'b' 'g' to build a new bridge, you can set it to be a raising or retracting bridge, and choose the direction.

When a bridge will be used to block access into your fort, you want a raising bridge. Retracting bridges allow line of sight, meaning that invaders will try to cross the moat to get inside, by flying, climbing, or jumping. I accidentally built a retracting front gate once and those zombies jumped over the pit and invaded my barracks.
