Will it ever be possible to actually raid the villages/towns? I sent my 50 dwarf army out to go attack the tower that keeps sending zombies to attack me and instead of slaughtering the necromancers they just stole all their books and came back. I sent them 5 more times and literally none of them even got in a fight. Will this be an option soon or am I missing osmething?

I sent my dorfs out once to pillage a Goblin pit. All they archived was to kill 5 Gobbos, nothing valuable to bring back.
I assume it depends on the situation and what they have 'acess to' at the given time. After all, if some Gobbos invade your Fort you aint giving them full acess to your fort that easily either.

I mean I'm assuming that if they stole the books they got into the tower. It must have been pretty hilarious watching FIFTY DWARVES sneak into a tower undetected. They need to up their security.

The report for whose interested. Could be some potential !fun! from that last entry

Better yet, build a high tower, made out of glass with all the books inside so the necros can see you have them.

Toady talks about in the latest Future of the Fortress report.

Also, if you ever figure out why poets/bards/dancers just randomly start butchering people/getting butchered, please don't fix it, I love never knowing when a dance party will turn into a slaughter.

Maybe one just got in, and took the books. I sometimes steal books from necromancer tower in Adventure, and I never actually sneak, I just lure the zombies out (sometimes hundred of them), try to get them stuck on terrain, and then using my speed advantage I barge in, steal books, say hello to necromancers (who are usually friendly), and get the hell out of there. I suppose dwarves could do it too, though it surely is abstracted in fortress mode. Bbecause dwarves are too stupid to actually do something like this with their current AI, they would need a tactical AI.

One plausible reason they don't fight is maybe that necromancers are not enemies, only zombies are. Even if a necromancer revives a body you just decapitated (and the head separately), they don't become enemies in Adventurer, at least in my experience.

The tower's undead might have been elsewhere on the map, travelling to or from a site for an attack.

There is something to be said about, if the stakes are as high, maybe reconsider your certitudes. One has to be aggressively allistic to feel entitled to be able to trust. But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

It'd be a convincing argument, if only necromancers actually launched attacks on other sites right now...
