I vaporized a dwarf
« on: November 29, 2017, 08:46:09 pm »

A hill titian had just come and I was panicking and tiring to get my dwarfs in the fort as soon as possible. The last guy in was the wood worker who almost made it across the bridge before the lever was pulled...But, he didn't and was in theory lunched a 100 Z levels. But I cant find his body I have looked every where but just cant find it, what happened?

Was there anything on the bottom of the bridge? You should definitely see some limbs lying around otherwise.

Is he on top of a wall somewhere? I've had that happen before and it was quite a while before I found him, well most of him.

Have you found dwarf blood?  Even when critters get smooshed, blood traces are often still there.

If your bridge is a drawbridge, and the dwarf was standing on the innermost tile when it raised (i.e. one of the ones that becomes a wall), then he was not flung - he was atom-smashed.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

That's what happened.

Yeah, there is no body to bury anywhere now.

I will now forever imagine that as the consequence of atom-smashing a creature. It is terrifying.

What did you expect, that the bodys 'vanish'? no no no no....

Everytime a being is atom smashed the bridge in question will absorb the body, its clothes, its mass. Yes the very soul of the being.
The more you smash the more lost souls will be trapped in the bridge for all of ethernity empowering it with their very essence.

If you close your eyes you can hear the ethernal screams of the doomed ones now embodied inside the atomsmasher bridges.

Unless it's too big, in which case the bridge deconstructs immediately, yet does not free any previously absorbed creatures. Scholars continue to debate on this "loss of information paradox" that occurs within the singularity that is a drawbridge.

The classical !!physics!! experiment of dumping enough random detritus to buy out an entire merchant caravan into a single tile of space, as well as an entire army's worth of decomposing body parts, is well known. Entire mountains of mined rock can be confined to a single state of superposition, and then annihilated instantly via drawbridge if one is inclined. The relationship between matter annihilation, its corresponding energy release, and the local flow of time is a subject of ongoing research.
