How to start embark with above-ground crops?
« on: November 24, 2017, 07:09:45 pm »

This has been an issue that I've been having for a while. I modded in a playable civ that doesn't use any underground crops, but that means that, when I start a new fortress, I have no seeds whatsoever.  Thankfully, I still have meat and fish, but I'd like to know if anyone has ideas for a solution. I'd also prefer to do this without DF Hack, if possible.

I do it with my custom race.  Your entity will need the [OUTDOOR_FARMING] tag.  And probably [OUTDOOR_WOOD] for wood.  [OUTDOOR_GARDENS] may give you more selection as well, though for some reason my race does not have it and I can't think of why not.

Thanks! Now I can stop worrying about food and can start working on other stuff.

Careful it is also dependent on biome, as a lack of crops (outdoor farming in a tundra/glacier civ etc) will cause world generation failures.
