So I have this one migrant, Thob Manorchaste, master mason and great engraver, so a pretty useful and memorable guy. A couple of seasons after arriving, they go into a fey mood and suddenly, their name and job has changed:



As you can see, they've become a 'Mercenary' even though they're not in the military and there's no way their profession shouldn't be something stone related, as well as having a completely different name. There was no announcement for the profession change.

I know that's the same dorf because they are still listed as Thob Manorchaste on Dwarf Therapist, which also says they are a Stoneworker. It's possible the change happened before the mood and I only noticed because of the announcement, but basically: WTF?

What's going on?! This guy is supposed to be Onul Staffchannel. Also, Monk? Never seen that before.

Second Edit: Looking through the unit list, there's about half a dozen dorfs with different names and weird professions they shouldn't have. Fort being taken over by pod people send help.

Since mercs won't petition a second time to become citizens, they shouldn't mood (nor should they come as migrants). You might try to look at the dorf in Legends Mode (and I assume DT has re-read the dorf info, so the name there isn't old cached data).
What DF version is this? If it's 0.43.05 it might be possible to look at a save to see if there's something funny going on with the name (and other info), such as e.g. a unit/hist fig mismatch.

This is the newest version and I haven't had any visitors yet even, let alone petitions. I'm 100% sure these are migrant citizens. As you say, visitors can't have moods so the first one at least has to be. I want to see if anything fun happens first, but I will check them out in legends mode later.

Also according to the wiki, "Zilta" is the HUMAN word for "amaze". I didn't think I'd seen that name before. So she's pretending to be a human I guess?

You can check out legends while still keeping your game by saving, making a copy of the save, start the copy, retire, and then go to legends mode.

Monk is one of the new visitor types.

Names are tied to civs rather than race, so a dwarf from a human civ could have a human name. Doesn't explain anything else, though.

Finally, it's usually better to update your last post than to double post.
