undead siege defeated by river
« on: November 24, 2017, 10:51:49 pm »

I had started this fortress not too long ago, and had just gotten to the spring of next year when I got sieged by a necromancer and an army of undead. I panicked and locked the door and then realized something, the invaders where on the other side of a river that split the map in two sections, they were just kinda...milling about out there...the only thing I can think of is the necromancer failed a spot check and didn't realize a river was there, since it doesn't seem any of them can swim.

They could ford it if they had something in sight to attack, but I think because of the depth they won't path through without some visual incentive (and I doubt the necromancer will path in regardless due to the fact he's still technically alive.) I had a goblin corpse that kept chasing a goat around until it lost visual contact, then it just kinda bumbled around until I got a squad together to brutalize it.

the area the siege arrived in is never visited by my dwarves, except in very specific circumstances. so I should be safe for now

You should also butcher all the cats, just to be on the safer side.
