Clothing Comfort, Darwinism

How about Dwarfs, and other citizens choose their clothing based on the weather they are living?

I do have dwarfs that feel bad not using a shirt, but maybe, some dwarfs may want to work shirtless near a forge or above ground in a desert. Cold weather would make dwarf prefer to use leather and fur, and hot weather more silk. How about that? To add a temperature value to clothes, this was suggested before:

Also, I do have dwarfs in a cold weather that are dark skinned, and white dwarfs on tropical weather. Their civ skin color and hair should also be compatible with their location. Dwarfs that lives basically underground may be gray, different for the more "sociable" kind.

Also Elves, some may live in jungles, temperate forests, swamps... And be different based on their biome. We may have underground Elves, like Drows.

And how do I have camels in a temperate biome???

Well, I guess some of this may also been modded already, but it would be good to see a more rational and diverse racial characteristics in the official lore.

I don't see why having camels in a temperate desert strikes you as odd. There are Bactrian camels in the Gobi, which isn't exactly a tropical region.

Aside from that, I've had similar thoughts regarding biome and temperature influencing clothing and appearance, as well as certain aspects of culture. I currently find it quite surreal when you end up having an Arthurian-England-esque human kingdom in the middle of what's basically the Serengeti.

BTW DF has no "official lore". It'll be a full-blown fantasy world generator eventually, right down to individual lore for each world, and until then modding in your own has been openly encouraged by Toady.

It's actually pretty terrifying to think about having all of your fat melt off into grease because you started sweating too much.

^The funniest part is how this is basically true in the current version of the game. Not that dwarves are any different. :P

Vanilla lore then.

Maybe something more to the game core. I don't know. Mods don't have evolution, etc... I mean, something simple to implement, Camels are not okay in a forest. Hmmmmkay? But, maybe, a Camel with a thicker skin, like the mammoth is to an elephant.

Anyway point is I know what you're going for with this suggestion, and I support it as I've had similar ideas in the past. :)
