Why not make an actual gigantic hand giving the finger out of charcoal blocks? Maybe two of them, so the elves have to go between them to get into your fort.

I'm doing something like that on a map I have. I'm channeling the soil layer to -1 and paving the entire map with Talk and Dolomite blocks. My sunberry and tree farms will be safe and secure below so I can keep working at full steam even during a siege.

I'd love to, one day, dig out a map. I mean the whole thing. So you just had a pit left.

When in doubt, kill it with fire. Start mass producing booze and dump it everywhere in your hallways. Wait for dragon. Put it on the DFMA.

Yes.

This is game speed question #5607 to which nobody has posted a link to the wiki on improving framerate.  http://dwarf.lendemaindeveille.com/index.php/Maximizing_framerate

Goal-directed gameplay FTW.  Make something the likes of which the world has never seen!  The most enjoyable game I've ever gotten out of the 3D version was being part of the team that built Mountain-Banners.

Aqueduct is a 'fun' enterprise.
Sewers is my next project, to go under the living areas.

Tombs are fun to make. Start small with burrows, then gradually progress through   mausoleums to pyramids.

build a walled, above ground town from a single material.

DF is one of those games where if you don't set a goal for yourself from the outset, you won't enjoy the game as much as you could.
