Missing eye
« on: April 20, 2008, 09:55:00 pm »

I sent my newly recruited peasants out to kill some annoying monkeys and one of them had his eye ripped out... Is he just going to keep falling unconcious his whole life?

Probably... head wounds don't usually heal. But I've never had an eye ripped out, so I'm not certain.

Draft him, or use him as a test for your flooding mechanisms.

I want him to become a one eyed bad ass...so no I wont kill him. Im seting him on pump and engraving duty till he is ultra strong. See if that effects him passing out. If it dosn't i'll throw him at an invasion.

Having something ripped out/off is intense pain, and since the wound never heals (dwarves, contrary to popular opinion, don't actually grow new ones), he'll keep feeling the pain of having lost an eye.

It's kinda funny though.  He'll be there, wandering around and going about his business, when all of a sudden he cries out "OW, my eye!" and falls unconscious from the pain.

This is an amnesia-inducing blackout, so he'll repeat the process indefinitely, constantly forgetting he lost an eye and then belatedly reacting once he remembers.

Darnit... Guess I'll have to kill him. Going to try to make his death kind of ironic... I'll kill him by throwing him in a pit full of monkeys. That should be fun to watch.

Actually, it should stop after a while. I've had many dwarves with missing eyes ( some with two ). My current mayor and mother of over 60 children has a missing left eye, she's never missed a minute of work in her life, due to passing out or otherwise.

I was playing adventurer mode once and ripped out a peasant's eyes.  I played a few short fortresses and came back what I figure was several years later for another round of adventuring.  Same peasant is still in town, and still continuously passing out and recovering several times a day.

You can train his toughness high enough, so the pain of missing Eye would be insufficient to make him pass out.

Yeah, put him on bookkeeping duty. Put his office right next to his bed and see if you can get him to train up his toughness. Either that or modify your dwarves to have the [NOPAIN] token.

I had a guy who lost an eye to a goblin arrow (yes, he was lucky). I put him on screwpump duty and now, after a bit of training he doesn't pass out anymore.

I redrafted him and let him have revenge on one of the caged marksgoblins.
