Underground and Darkness
« on: October 31, 2007, 04:38:00 am »

So one thing I noticed was in this new version of DF there is a note whether the tile is dark or light when one inspects it. I also noticed that my dwarfs move much quicker above ground ( where it is well light ) as  opposed to below ground.
This leads me to believe that there is some sort of lighting device, such as a torch that can be placed... anyone run in to something like this or the problem I have?

Have you tried making a skylight in the roof of the subterranean areas?
Or magma might give off a glow.

(Just ideas, let me know if it does anything.)

dig a channel and floor over it (this should be dug/built on ground level to affect level below) should make it count as inside rather than subterranean which will make it light rather than dark. this is a theory based on my wooden fot but it should work i partially roofed over my fort and areas under floors count as inside light, digging a channel down makes area below count as outside so based on that it should work

I think the difference in speed that you might have noticed is the lag associated with the undergronud that has been mentioned around the forums.  There's no actual difference in speed, it's the whole game running slower.
From what I've gathered, it's all the unknown tiles underground that do it.
