YOUR WORLD WILL END IN 16 DAYS
« on: June 30, 2007, 06:01:00 pm »

Ok so a friend of mine just asked me how long I thought it would take for Toady to complete the next version. I said 16 days...
He asked me to elaborate, I told him that based on the list of items to be done and about how many of those items he did a day it would take about 14 and half days to complete. But you have to account for big items that take even longer and other stuff getting in the way so it gets a little bigger. Of course 16 days isn't accurate it's probably off by as much as a week but it will likely take at the least 16 days.
At least that's my prediction.

So errr
*ahem*
YOUR WORLD WILL END IN 16 DAYS!!!!!
Becauses naturally you'll start a new one.

I love this guy.

Also, here's hoping the next release does only take a couple weeks. D: From what I gather, Toady's been chipping away at the minor issues while saving the major ones for later, so the current rate of fixes might not be entirely accurate.

All the signs lie before you.

Actually I doubt it will be 16 days (though it's 14 now.) I just thought 16 sounded better then say 20

It's up to 13... I wonder if I should count the days down just to see if I'm right...

Thus the great disappointment has come again.

...

EDIT: -3 THATS IT! I forgot to account for the -3 inflate error this marks it at.. 30683 days from now... Hmmm let me try this again.

7(for number of starting dwarves)*3(for the Z axis)-12(for number of alcohol)*2(for the two evil civs)+(-3^(16-18(for the day the last release was on and previous calculations)) 25th of july(elephants! 4 legs 2 eyes and 1 trunk)

july 25th people!

I seem to recall that way back before the first public version of Dwarf Fortress was released, I calculated its release date (which was still around half a year in the future, I think?) with fairly decent accuracy by going back and doing the math on how long it had taken Toady to do each item on his list before, and multiplying that by how many were left.

Well, actually that was the "middle" guesstimate.  The short estimate was ten minutes and fifty-seven seconds, and the long one was NAN days, NAN minutes, and NAN seconds.

EDIT:  Oh, here it is.  The ~150 days guess was pretty close.
