What is the difference betweeen quern and millstone?
« on: September 06, 2017, 06:32:07 pm »

This probably sounds stupid, but both buildings on the wiki say they grind things into flour, etc. So what is the difference between these two workshops exactly? What's funny is I have I played this game a lot, but never really used either building in my forts. I was just glancing over the workshops and figured I would try using some stuff I normally don't. Thanks for any help!

A quern is manually operated by dwarves. A millstone requires a power input of at least 10 to work. I think millstones grind stuff stuff faster than querns, but I'm not sure.

The closest thing Bay12 has to a flamewar is an argument over philosophy that slowly transitioned to an argument about quantum mechanics.

The trick is to only make predictions semi-seriously.  That way, I don't have a 98% failure rate. I have a 98% sarcasm rate.

Awesome thanks. It sounds like the quern is more for early game then.

I think more for less production or power-carrying fort designs. Routing power to millstone is fun, though I've always used querns for library production so far (Not that a windmill atop library building isn't fitting). Don't know what the difference is, but it's small enough to not brother there for the handful of sheets the dwarves will be using.

As said, a quern is usually sufficient, but if you're into large volume grinding you may save some dwarf power by using the powered device.
