Wheelbarrows and Barrels numbered
« on: September 08, 2017, 04:01:08 pm »

Granted, I haven't been playing DF very long and I might just not have ever noticed, but my wood crafted items, mainly wheelbarrows, ladders, and barrels are being created with a number entry at the end of their name. Ex. ginkgo wood wheelbarrow <#9>.

It's just a nitpicking issue and just an annoyance for the most part, especially when I have 5 wheelbarrows each called applewood wheelbarrow <#7>. Can this numbering feature be disabled or did I inadvertently do something wrong to trigger this?

The numbers indicate which stockpile the wheelbarrow (or barrel) is assigned to. Your dwarves may lack the labor or access to the objects or stockpiles in order to place the assigned objects where they belong, or possibly the stockpiles might be already full.

I know of no way to disable the display of stockpile assignment tags. You can reduce the number of wheelbarrows assigned to your stockpiles to remove the numbers from wheelbarrows that obviously are not being used.

(The 5 wheelbarrows assigned to #7 suggest that you used DFHack to set a custom value; vanilla only allows 0-3 per stockpile, and could conceivably behave oddly with overly large numbers.)

Loci posted while I typed, so there's a significant overlap.

The numbers actually mean these items belong to the stockpile with that number.Wheelbarrows, large pots, barrels, and bins are items belonging to the stockpiles, with wheelbarrows allocated for transport to that stockpile and the other items for storing stuff in it. If step ladders are numbered that's odd, as they have no stockpile function.

In vanilla DF you can allocate up to 3 wheelbarrows to a stockpile (DFHack allows a much larger number), which serves the functions of both limiting the maximum number of concurrent transport jobs to the stockpile to the number of wheel barrows, and as tools for faster transport of the corresponding items (basically useful only for boulders).

When creating stockpiles that are capable of storing items that can be put into bins or barrels those stockpiles default to take as many containers as it has spaces, but you can set the number to something else (and you can change it later).

I feel like an idiot, as I should have noticed that coordination sooner. Thank you for the clarification.
