I wanted to poke fun at the game's title in the thread subject but this is all you get. It's two chars shy of our subject length limit.

Anyway, I received a key for the $20 DLC in the E3 Humble Bundle (13 hours left as of this writing). Decided to pick it up because I've played too much TF2 in the past and wanted something new. It's been great fun thus far but I definitely won't be springing for any of the DLC with my own cash.

The good:
It's not dead, unlike some team-based shooters you can probably find.
There's always a game going on. With the matchmaking system, I always get a game within five seconds.

The meh:
There are supposedly going to be PVE and PVP matches. As of the current beta, there's just the different PVP types.

The bad:
Sometimes the game spawns me in when joining a match before giving me control (and sometimes before the loading screen ends). This results in my invincibility going away and usually ends up with me getting killed before my play time even starts.

The ugly:
There are eight operatives you can play as, each with different skills, weapons, and so on. You pick one when starting out. You purchase the rest with a good amount of in-game cash. Until then, you better be sure to pick someone you like.

I went with the sniper character even though I suck at sniping. That's really not a hindrance though - he also starts with two alternate loadouts containing an smg and an assault rifle. See below screenshot for one possible result of not sniping as the sniper.

And now the one solitary screenshot I took. No gameplay or anything, just something I found intensely amusing after a grand total of two hours of play:

I don't know if I was just really bad at it, but I seemed to get killed a lot by people with shotguns and/or Batou's rocket ability. Not helping matters is that I picked Maven as my first character, whose special ability is... a tiiiny little wall that'll make you invisible if you crouch behind it. Not the most useful.

I also thought a lot of the maps were pretty bad, Neon Ruins being a special standout. You just run around in a circle and get killed by enemies behind you in the loop, while trying to kill enemies ahead of you in the loop. I don't remember much else specifically about the maps, beyond thinking they weren't very fun.

I also found it very frustrating that your enemies all appear as generic characters, so you can't tell what threat you might be facing until it's too late.

This is pretty much the kiss of death for MP shooters for me. Some people truly enjoy that kind of game play, I can't fucking stand it. Getting shot from behind when you spawn because everyone is just doing hotlaps around the map is the anti-fun to me. I got my fill of that in Call of Duty Modern Warfare.

I downloaded it again, played a few rounds and had a good time. It seems that the only gun worth using in most situations is a shotgun, though, since the game is very lethal and the extra half-second it takes with an assault rifle could make all the difference. It often comes down to who clicks first, which can be very satisfying or feel like utter bullshit at any given moment. It's very twitchy, which isn't my style but I can respect it.

I still don't like the maps though. There's no clear division between your team's area and the enemy area, if there even is such a thing as Neon Ruins and Headquarters seem to have spawn points for both teams randomly placed everywhere.
