Is there a bug with screwpresses?
« on: May 15, 2017, 09:05:06 am »

I have a very nice start on a fortress, but for some reason the screwpresses wont let me press sheets from milled plant slurry.

I have plenty of plant slurry, but the option stays red in the screwpress.

Check that it's powered properly, and if so, check that it's materials aren't TSK'd or being hauled.

Screw presses don't require power. My guess is that either your slurry is somehow tasked and therefore unavailable, or you've accidentally set up a stockpile to give to the screw presses.

What version are you playing, incidentally? If I recall correctly, stockpiles only started taking slurry in 43.04, and there were some issues with worlds generated pre-43.04 when imported into newer versions.

Check if you've accidentally enabled "Workshop restrictions" on a burrow.

I think it was the "hauled items block labors" thing, as after just waiting for there to be over 300 globs of plant slurry, it finally turned white, and I could make paper sheets.

Screw presses don't require power.

They don't?!?!  What the hell have I been building my mill-and-pressing power trunk for?

I assume for the mills, unless you're one of those people that like making your dwarves grind their flour in the artifact querns your masons keep turning out.

Millstones requite power, screw presses don't. You get the plant, mill it to slurry then press it to sheets. Querns are slower than millstones, but don't need power.

Also, if you ever figure out why poets/bards/dancers just randomly start butchering people/getting butchered, please don't fix it, I love never knowing when a dance party will turn into a slaughter.
