Got a seed with mountain bordering ocean... no, really!

You've all probably noticed how there is often a ^ tile mountain right on the far right edge of a map, in a place where there are no other mountains?  Anyway, I've noticed this before.  It always seems like the far right edge has some terrain wierdness, I guess this has to do with fractal terrain generation or something.

So on this seed, when I genned the map with my machine, it produced mountains bordering the ocean.  There are also a few tiles of normal mountain bordering the ocean.  Those of you who have been lusting for mountain + ocean might want to check it out.  The spot I am talking abuot is in the middle of the far right edge of the map.

I was under the impression that this is usually not possible, so if I am wrong about that, ignore me!  :)

Ehhh....  Can the area actually be settled?  Is there beach in between?

I came across a map recently that had a ^ tile overlooking a lake.  I was seriously pissed, because I couldn't get to it...

Yes, it can be settled and it has access to all civs.

Here is what it looks like on the cite menu:

Embarking...

And the map...

As you can see, there is still a buffer between sea and cliff face... but that is a massive 20-level cliff face.  I am sure a few industrious dwarves could make the rock shelf go away in short order, then you'll have waves smashing on cliffs.

I have once found a mountain over a freshwater lake. It also had a strip of land over on the other side of a narrow portion of it. The mountain was 100+ levels high. Unfortunately, this was before the seeds changed.

Say everybody, have you seen my balls?
They're big and salty and brown.
If you ever need a quick pick-me-up
Just stick my balls in your mouth.

Oooh, suck on my chocolate, salty balls.
       (Put 'em in your mouth!)
Put 'em in your mouth and suck 'em and suck 'em...

Oddly enough 666000666 also had a couple of mountain+ocean tiles.

The motherload will be a mountainous area with lava next to ocean.  That is the holy grail of map seeding.

Oh, and out of curiosity, does this happen because of a glitch, or is it just really rare?  Mountains next to ocean (NOT fresh water lake), I mean.
