Explorable world in DF?

Is there a way to explore regions in the world not where you settled, beyond the first map?

Adventurer and Legends Mode allow you to explore the entire world. The world keeps going regardless of what you do, so playing, retiring then starting new fortresses in various locations is another way.

Next release will have a map during fortress mode so you can see areas beyond your fortress location.
