there are three settings

0, IX, and XVII
Off, 9 and 17
you think the higher the number, the more powerful

as for what it does...
it's a Dream Machine
even if it looks exactly like a hair-dryer
it makes dreams
you remember this, though you don't remember why you remember that you remember

either way, it makes dreams, as a machine does
whether they're real or fake, you're not sure if that matters
you haven't used it before, because

well, there are no power adapters where you are
so the only thing to power it with is
the Astronomer
(that's you)

Set it to 9, and let the imagination free.

But first:
We're the astronomer. What do we know about these stars? How distant are they? What is near them? What is near us? Can we go there?

you
you don't know
you call yourself the Astronomer but you don't know anything about these stars
you just like looking at them

you just know they're very very far away
you wish you could reach them
touch them and hold on to them
but you can't get anywhere

you are not immortal
one day, you will die, and there will be nothing but the Dream Machine, you telescope, and your corpse
using it will make that day come quicker
though

you do have a dream
a dream where you don't float alone, and have people to accompany you
a dream where you can finally touch the stars you love
the Dream Machine can grant you this at the cost of your lifespan

though it can also grant you horror
for there's always the darkness that lurks at the back of your head

if you choose to use the Dream Machine, it will grant all these things
the sun, the moon, and the stars

so
will you Dream?
