A!

Turn 39

Kyoto, up in a tree

As Tekkan, in his silly hat, slowly makes his way across the path, Hideki quietly slips a throwing knife out of his sleeve. He quickly applies some of the poison from one of his vials, making sure none of it drips down. Hideki draws back his arm and waits for Tekkan to get into a good position.

As Tekkan comes round the bend, Hideki has a clear shot of his face. Hideki's arm snaps forward, sending the knife flying towards Tekkan. Hideki can't see if Tekkan saw the knife coming or not from his spot up in the tree, but what's certain is that he had no time to react. Before he knows it, the blade is hilt-deep in his throat. He falls to his knees and his two subordinates start panicking. One starts running back towards the beginning of the path shouting for help, while the other tries to help Tekkan. It's futile, obviously, if the blood loss or suffocation doesn't get him, the poison eventually will.

Now, to get out of here.

A. Get down from the tree and run away from the scene towards the farmlands surrounding Kyoto.
B. Get down from the tree and run away towards the streets of Kyoto, trying to dissapear into the crowds and leave through the main gate
C. Get down from the tree and run up to Tekkan and his subordinate, and cut them down with Muramasa. Then get out of here.
D. Get down from the tree and run up to the subordinate running for help, and cut him down with muramasa. Then get out of here.
E. Stay in the tree for now and hope they don't find you here.

((Second time writing this, because my internet gave out and ate my previous attempt. Jolly good))

Turn 40

Kyoto

Hideki watches the attendand run towards the festival street. Saying that he's running is probably a bit generous, though. The man is clearly weighed down by the heavy ceremonial clothing, the little tassels on his hat bobbing up and down, so it's more like he's walking at a brisk pace than running.

Hideki climbs down from the tree, agile as a cat. He runs towards the road, dodging trees and sidestepping bamboo stalks, though he takes a bamboo slap or two to the face in the process. When he bursts from the foliage and into the road, he takes a quick glance to his right towards Tekkan. Tekkan is on the ground, twitching slightly. The second attendand is on his knees next to him, trying to apply pressure to the wound. It seems the attendand has sealed Tekkan's fate, though. In his panic to help his master he took the knife out to be able to put his hands on the wound to apply pressure, but this just managed to remove the one thing holding back the bloodflow. The blood flows freely from Tekkans throat and through the attendands fingers. Tekkan is not long for this world.

Hideki starts off to his left to catch the first attendand. As he's running, and easily catching up to the man, Hideki notices that he's got Muramasa in his hand. Clearly, he must have taken it out of its scabbard at some point, though he can't really recall when. Regardless, Hideki closes in on the attendand, who hears him coming at the last moment. The attendand turns around and begins to say something, but is cut off when Hideki slashes his chest. The man falls to his knees and gives a pained cry of pain. Hideki uses the momentum of his first slash, reverses his grip, and slashes hard. The attendand's head comes clean off of his shoulders, and the rest of his body slumps to the ground.

Satisfied that the attendand's death will mean that nobody will get to Tekkan before he has kicked the bucket, Hideki fades back into the bamboo and makes his escape. He heads for the road leading through the farmlands surrounding the city, as that's a pretty likely place for Ed and Otsu to hide out, since they'll need to take that road eventually.

But before he can get there, he has to somehow get past on of the gates to get out of the city.

Will Hideki try:

1: The main Northern gate.
2: The secondary southern gate.

A: Wait until a group of people makes their way out of the city and try to blend in with them.
B: Attempt to appear as one of the townsfolk and try to get out without arousing suspicion.
C: Simply attempt to walk out as he is hoping that nobody stops him, bluffing or fighting his way out if they do.
D: Attempt to find some way to sneak through the gate unseen.

((I'm going to be honest with...whoever still reads this. This really isn't working out for me. Most of it is my own fault, admittedly. I'm starting to realize that I am just not suited to long, drawn out scenarios spanning lots of locations and characters. One-shots in smaller area's would be more my kind of thing, I think. Anyway, that being said, I don't want to abandon another game. Since we've already got two of the four targets down, I'm just going to speed this whole thing up a bit by placing the last two in the same location and pointing y'all at said location. That should move us towards the conclusion of this game in a reasonable amount of time and give us an action-filled ending. And I know just the place.))

The secondary southern gate. Simply attempt to walk out as he is hoping that nobody stops him, bluffing or fighting his way out if they do.

Turn 41

Kyoto

Hideki wipes his blade on a piece of cloth and buries the cloth in the ground amids the bamboo grove. He then jumps a fence behind a little restaurant, landing in the back yard. He makes his way through the trash and emerges from a side alleyway into the street. People are running all over the place. Guards are running towards the center of the city, called by the shouting of the panicking crowd. Meanwhile farmers, merchants and tourists alike are making their way away from the centre of the city. Hideki mingles in with them, slipping out of the secondary in the confusion. The guards try to stop the crowd, but they are too few in number and get overwhelmed by the gaggle of panicking civilians, at which point they just give up.

After a while, Hideki hears horses behind him. he looks around, his hand instinctively reaching for Muramasa, but he relaxes when he sees that it's Ed and Otsu. They've brought his horse with them, and together they set off to get some distance between them and the city. They head off, second assassination completed.

Kyoto outskirts, camping in the woods

The group is sitting in the woods, around a cozy campfire. Some vegetables are grilling on the fire while Ed is loudly snacking on some jerky he conjured up from somewhere. Hideki hears a loud caw and a magpie lands next to him. Attached to its leg is note, which Hideki takes off and begins reading. The magpie hops off towards the campfire, grabs a piece of vegetable and flies off again.

"Well, I've got good news and bad news."
"Okay, what's the good news?"
"I now know where my last two targets are, and they're surrounded by Spider Clan soldiers, so they're not going anywhere soon."
"That is good news. Seems like things are going our way for once."
"So, what's the bad news?"
"They're holed up on Hokkaido. More specifically, they're holed up in Fort Goryokaku."
"Aw, shit."

One month later, Hokkaido
Top of a mountain overseeing Fort Goryokaku

After three weeks at sea, the group arrived on Hokkaido. Otsu introduced them to some Spider Clan officers, using her status as Spider Clan warrior to get them into good graces. From there, they were allowed to join up with the forces surrounding the fort. The forces consist of both humans and yokai, and everything in between. It seems the reputation of the Spider clan that htey consort with demons was not completely unfounded, even though they don't so much consort as live in harmony with them. A small tengu has lead them to the top of a mountain overlooking the fort, affording them a rather magnificent autumn view.

"As you can see, the fort is a nightmare to attack. The moat will be a real pain to cross, and you'd have Lion clan archers and Phoenix clan seers raining hell on you all the way, with no real blind spots in their defence. We're currently just waiting for them to starve, but with the stores of that fort it could take months."

His last two targets are inside the star fort, surrounded by a small army of their loyal retainers.

How will Hideki proceed?
