Glass and water

So I have a neat embark spot with a deep gorge and a major river at the bottom.  I am doing some building in the gorge using glass blocks.  So a few questions about this...

1. Glass and building destroyers?  Are these "solid" walls for defense purposes?
2. The river freezes in winter...if I build an "underwater level" with a floor, walls and ceiling that would be submerged during "non-frozen" parts of the year will this work?
3. Glass windows...how are they affected by the above two queries?

1. Yes. Walls of ash, soap, and ice are completely safe too.
2. If you mean you'll dig and channel away the ice and build walls and two levels of floors (as floor and ceiling), yes, they'll stay dry when the ice around it melts.
3. Windows are not walls. They belong to different classes of items. Windows can be destroyed by building destroyers, but they will keep water out, and thus be ice/water safe.

Fluids can flow diagonally across the z access.  Be careful to construct walls on the corners to prevent flooding.

Fluids can only flow diagonally in the x-y plane at the same z-level.
