Years...Well, it is clear: Obsidian factory is not the goal of Roasting-staff, though seems like there's numerous idlers.

And it seems somewhat tragic tale is unfolding, were I to care for the villainous protagonist who cuts trees when there's magma, who spurns the plenty of above for sufficiency underground and who attacks elves who show up in good spirit.

Fortress update - 1st Hematite 6

No paper, no parchment, no papyrus.  Cannot create the proper forms without.  Oral update given, as required.

»   Dwarf health         0/10      Nothing to report.
»   Dwarves work   4/10      Roasting staff hasn't taken any new soldiers into her personal guard, she still has 4. And they are still assisting the conscripts, or fishing, mostly fishing.  We have four new guards, total of six, from the Mountainhome, and they are also fishing, or hunting.  There are now twenty conscripts to manage, and they have taken most of the jobs.  This has freed up the soldier and guards to stop listening to my requests in favor of their own pursuits, and time to grumble about the incompleteness of the stockade.  In addition, we have 3 administrators.  Two dwarves were recently noted as not laboring.
»   Foreseeable attacks   5/10There is a conspiracy of ravens outside, no real threat.  The elves have found us, and they scouted out our entrance and are likely plotting against us.  We stole everything they came with except their clothing and yaks.
»   Fortress progress   9/10We have places to sleep and eat, but there are no defenses ready.  There will be real emphases on getting a proper fortification in place now.
»   Food   2/10Progress is being made, we just require more seeds and underground plants.
»   Military   7/10The guards and soldiers are right, and we need to get things ready for them to train and able to make battle upon invaders.
»   Wood Exports   2/10Without defenses, this priority has fallen.
         »   Other Exports   1/10No change.
»   Morale   7/10The encounter with the elves has practically every dwarf upset, most of us loved our King and want the elves to return him.  The fact that the elves were allowed to leave really angered many dwarves.
         »   Other   5/10No change.

And Urist thought, "We will be ready for them, if they dare to show their faces around here again."

   Thank you for reading,

Spoiler: Fleeting Frames' quote (click to show/hide)

Fleeting Frames, thanks for another reply.

Yes, they are currently working at cross goals.  Urist wants to be protected from the elves, the soldiers and guards are upset they were not allowed to attack, and Roasting-staff wants her quarters to be completed before anything else can happen.  And she wants a better tavern, better temple for her god, and all of the nice things.

If you would like to change the direction of things, let me know.  The setup of the fort is on the tracks to go someplace, with various needs getting priority based on what I imagine Urist actually wants to complete.  If there were more vocal proponents of another path, she would probably listen.

And DF always results in tragedy, I think it is the natural order of dwarves.

   Thanks for reading, Thebtathtak

After reading Silentthunders, I can't help but be slightly spooked at conspiracy of ravens.

You might consider mkv25.net/dfma for uploading fort maps instead of screenshots of slices.

Haven't seen that worker's quarters design before, nor the roasting's quarters.

And, heh, that's lot of work orders.

And  take whatever direction you find interesting.
