Need help with changing animals to beastmen

I want to make some kind of material, that once ingested by an animal, will transform that animal to its beastman counterpart, among other things. I know i could create a bunch of syndromes that each affect only one animal and turn that animal into its beastman form, but that seems inefficient and would probably take a long time. Is there a way to use dfhack to do this without a bunch of syndromes or automate creating all of the syndromes? (also does anyone know how to use the dfhack transform script in the raws, or other scripts in the raws? there doesn't seem to be any examples of the scripts in use in the documentation)
