Does Cooking save space?
« on: September 17, 2016, 09:29:34 pm »

I don't have enough barrels to make drinks! I mean, the river never freezes so that's fine, but the dwarves might not be too happy about that. So, does cooking save space?

In lot of circumstances, yes...But I almost never store anything not liquid in barrels at all, preferring minecart systems.

You can use cooking to get things out of barrels into a barrelless stockpile, if you don't want to dump. Just make sure to have enough stockpile space as to not get rotten food.

I'd just make more barrels if I were you. You can never have too many barrels!

If you're low on wood, you can build pots from stone (with a stonecrafter I believe) and they will work just as well.

pots are superior. they hold more, and resist vermin better.

I don't think they hold more drinks though, because they'll only store a single batch, (same as a barrel). They do store more food.

booze stack size is dependent upon brew item stack size.

if you can get bigger stacks of brewable items, bigger booze batches will result.
