Friendly Human Freeloader.
« on: February 06, 2008, 10:43:00 am »

I've got a Pabu Ocdakesmel hangin' around my magma vent right now.  Found him while I was looking through my unit list to admire my long list of flaming horses (and babies).

He never moves.  Was he just leftover from some human caravan, or did I just get some human hanging around?  On the unit list it says 'friendly' by his name.

I just wish he'd come and help out with all the freaking ambushes I've been getting lately.

Maybe he's a hermit. Cool new hidden fun stuff?

Urist, President mandates the Dwarven Bill of Rights.

Cue magma.
Ah, the Magma Carta...

Probably a bug. However, a hermit could be interesting. Maybe in exchange for food he can teach your Dwarves things or give you an artifact?

I like to think that he retired from swordsmanning and decided to spend his sliver and golden years among my stout dwarves.

If he starts hitting on my female dwarves though, into the magma pits with him!   ;)

Although...he does seem to like to hang out with my horses...that's just gross...
EDIT: Now that I think about it...perhaps he was banished to here for just that reason.  Maybe we don't want to learn what Pebu has to teach us.

I've had a dwarf do this, and I noticed him after the dwarven caravan left. Maybe a bug with caravan guards?

Digging a channel under him would drop him in magma...I think I know what would happen.   :D

BTW: flaming creatures in the unit list remind me of when llamas took over the quest for the holy grail beginning credits.   :D

A better idea would be to build a house around him.

Simple, yet elegant.  Pebu gets a house today!  (Horse-free zone though)

EDIT:  So, turns out that it wasn't a bug at all.  'Ol Pebu was just petrified from the presence of a fire imp and wouldn't budge for MORE THAN THREE YEARS!  I was going to build a house around him, but as soon as I killed the fire imps so that my dwarves would stop canceling the jobs, he up and walked off to the south.  Fare thee well, Pebu!  There is a void that will never be filled in my fort...

How's this for an adventure mode quest: "Seek thee out Pebu the Hermit, wheresoever he may be."

Actually that is a good idea.  That'll give something to do on adventure mode for the next 10 years!
