So... does muddy terrain help the trees outside to grow?

How was the performance hit? I know when my floodgate system fails, it rapidly chugs down to a frame a second.

I wonder if it would make those "tree" mushrooms to grow outside. I've never experimented with flooding a room far away from the river and seeing what pops out of the ground.

Actually, I did it on purpose. Pulled the lever on for like a real-time second or two. The result was a wave that shot off the trade spot and around the world.

The terrain now classifies as 'Muddy Dry Grass'. Let's see what grows in a couple of years.

Sadly, it all dries during summer. I'm in a warm area, though - people in temperate climates may be luckier.

Also, sometimes the floodgate closes but doesn't stop the flooding: I have to fiddle with the river and bridge until one of them sends a flood-killing message.

Hmm... I thought someone said once that flood water wont drown anything outside your fortress. I think the idea was that water outside of it is only waist deep or somthing (aside from the outdoor river of course!).

Aqueducts across rivers are still buggy, it seems.

Something about having one water tile next to the mouth of the aquaduct will make it flood. If you find a narrow part in the river to place that buggy building, there will hopefully be no problems...

...well, until you release lava into the outside world. Then you'll have to deal with roving flows of lava. No more immigration! No more pesky traders! No worries that pesky traders will get their kingdoms to seige you! No more going outside into the raining skies! Dwarf Heaven!

Yeah, I did it. Aqueducts seem to channel liquid that's adjacent to one of their ends, no matter in -which- direction it's adjacent.

So, does the water actually "walk" over bridges without spilling off it? That seems really useful and really unrealistic..

Yeah, it does. It leaks and raises a lot of steam, of course, but otherwise gets through.
