I didn't bring an anvil and my liason is dead.
« on: February 04, 2008, 04:09:00 am »

It's been three years and I still don't have an anvil. Now my mayor is asking me to make something with Gold Bars. I thought my salvation was at hand when I nice big Human Caravan actually got to my depot.. but THEY DON'T HAVE ONE EITHER YEARGH. Also I've been forgetting to make trade goods.

Should I just set up a bunch of dynamite and blow the whole thing sky high or can I salvage this?

(Actually that gave me an idea, is gas ever going to be in the game? Would be interesting.. you'd have to bring some canaries and build some cages for them and set them up and make sure if you do run into gas.. that you don't build a furnace there and turn it on.)

Er, is it possible that they periodically add more goods after arriving, because I could have SWORN those anvils weren't there last time I checked.   :o

It takes a long time for the merchants to offload everything they've got.

I know there's a message saying when they've started, and when they're getting ready to leave, but I don't suppose there's one that I've been somehow missing about when they're finished loading?

Nope, don't think so. You've just gotta keep an eye on them and keep requesting to trade.  They'll only say yes when all the loot's been dropped.

I was quite surprised when I read that humans didn't bring you anvil. They always bring at least 5 to me.

There's also the fact that, for me at least, there are some humans with pack animals trailing the wagons. Those probably had the anvil.

Humans may bring anvils but a REAL dwarf would never buy one. A sturdy dwarven anvil is the heart of a fortress, if your ancestors only knew you were replacing it with a shoddy and inferior human-constructed object they would cut off their beards in shame.  :(

You could always use the anvils that the humans brought to make your own, then melt down the human anvil, turn it into bolts, and, shall we say, return it to its previous owner, now that would be the dwarven way.

If it's metal, I'll buy it.
If you had my starting location you would, too.  Not that I'm complaining -- you can trade a little bit of the shiny yellow metal for a whole lot of the sturdy gray metal.
