what's the point of the maintenace tunnel?  I didn't think dwarves could walk where a channel was located.

A channel without any water in it doesn't block movement.

Additionally, if you want to build a bridge over a channel, the channel must have water in it, or have had water in it previously. 'New channels' cannot have a bridge built over them.

how do you bridge properly anyway.. i've had dwarves starting a bridge and end up with a bunch of can't find path nonsense - admittedly the dwarf that started it went to sleep and i had someone else to try and finish it..... even cancelled and rebuilt.. resulting in some building materials being teleported on to the other side of the river (?!)

it was 2 sq wide, 1 sq deep onto land on each side

ps.. i've been doing outside farms lately i suppose the same principle works with the river...

basically

code:

c########################
l#indoor forest/mud area#
i#######X#########d######
f#_________________________XXriver
f########X#########X#####
f#farm.plot..#farm.plot.#
a####d#########d#########
c#..........corridor....#
e#######d################
.#fortress
(farming type workshops + food pile)

since i'm using the outside river, my gates are on the left hand side.. so if you use the river inside, you can just dig the channel bit as far right as you want and then go back and plan backwards

I'm getting tired of all these old threads being brought back.  I'm going to start issuing bans before I let it become fashionable, so please stop.
