Trading Question
« on: July 25, 2016, 02:36:18 pm »

I've run into something that I can't figure out about trading. I'm trying to get rid of my wood cages, as they are starting to fall apart, but the caravans won't take some of them and they appear in red like this:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Anyone know why?

Red indicates seized goods, which caravans won't buy. Evidently improvements don't remove the stolen goods status.

Weird how it won't remove stolen status, it removes bought status.

uristMcTrader: why hello there good sir, may we intrest you in some of our fine goods? please do make note that we stole a whole bunch of stuff, allow me to show you each stolen good so that you know that we stole them even though there was nobody to see that we stole them and we stole them from the evles so it shouldent matter to you, a dwarven caravan.

but really, stolen goods should be* tradable, theres no way that they could tell the difference between a *oak wood cage* that i stole and a *oak wood cage* that i made myself.

* note that im saying that i think that it would make more sense if they could be traded. as of now you cannot trade them.

We stole them from elves. ELVES. The dwarven caravan should just laugh that one off. Plus they were stolen like 280 years ago. There should be some sort of statute of limitations on that.

You're allied with elves and this could cause war with them, so they should probably punish you, not laugh it off.

Especially if it did cause war with elves.

Though yeah, dwarves be psychic.

war with elves isnt a real issue, they are armed and armored with plants. we have steel.

also everybody in every elder scrolls game is psychic too.

You can trade stolen goods, as long as you file away the serial numbers (a.k.a. pimping the goods through encrusting, or melting it down). What I don't understand, however, is why anyone would want to get MORE junk in the fortress (I can understand a desire to provoke a war, but then magma dumping the junk seems more sensible).

Yeah they are encrusted. Doesn't work with seized merchandise apparently. The reason I wanted to trade them away is that some of them have masterwork decorations on them which would be lost if I dropped them in magma, even though I suppose it wouldn't matter since the dwarves who decorated them are long dead.

Kill them and take all their stuff instead of seizing.
