In my 2nd year of my fortress, I had a dwarf make a legendary stone item. I never realised how good a legendary stonecrafter is - they chew through stone like nobody's business! Saves me dumping it all

Yea, it's a lot of hauling.

In my current fort I got a fey mechanic, and its a limestone fort, so the masterpieces are wort almost as much as a giant cave spider silk sock!
It is actually much more piratical than crafts in some ways.

Crafts go into bins though, so moving them to the depot is easy work.

But bins take precious metal or wood.

Since when is wood a problem? Take 100 logs with you at startup, you'll see you will have enough for barrels and bins.  :p

Copper is not exactly precious. In every fort where I had copper, I had more of it than I could ever need.

Anyways, I just got a Legendary Craftsdwarf from a Fey Mood (Went from Dabbling Grower and Novice Pump Operator to Craftsdwarf) and I have to say, I'm enjoying this. But god, do I need haulers.

Just don't make mugs.  You get three mugs from one stone, IIRC.  (Is this true of other crafts?)  That's a quick way to make your problems even bigger, just in terms of hauling time!

I've not seen a craft yet that could implant a serrated disk into a goblin's skull.

Use the skulls to make totems.

Mechanisms for the win: they produce both fun AND profit.

Obsidian short swords... masterwork variety x2 for every dwarf in your fortress. In a time of need simply draft and equip every dwarf in the fortress with them and charge!!
