version 1.02 Liquid fire !!FUN!!
« on: June 10, 2016, 10:47:44 am »

So I have started my first succesfull fort ever!!! (81 dorfs!) but because of immigrants I keep getting forest fires.
The migrants come here wearing liquid fire, burn to death and proceed to burn down the forest as well, I don't realyl mind the forest fires except for my !!FPS!!. just though I should report this1

Hey, thanks.

Could you please check if you have a file called errorlog.txt in your dwarffortress folder and post the content? Because that sounds like a bug with materials, but I checked all the files and the only entry of "liquid fire" is the extract of the fire snake; a vermin that lives in the magma lakes... no way migrants have access to that.

Erh, my errorlog is full of pathfail options. Is there any good website where I can just upload the file to?

Nah, pathfail stuff is harmless. It has nothing to do with modding or raws...

Are you sure they are literally wearing "liquid fire" ? I mean, theoratically it does exist, as a liquid creature extract using the flame-template. It would set wooden barrels on fire, so I could believe a caravan burning up (regardless of the fact that dwarves dont have access to fire snakes), but migrants... that sounds weird.

no entry in the errorlog like "DUPLICATE something" ?

PS: Just copy paste the content of it into a spoiler, no need to upload the file.

Sounds like it might be a divine cloth, they all have names like that and civs can get permanent access to the materials during world-gen when adventurers and thieves raid angel lairs and bring back loot. Though I'm not sure if there's any non-cosmetic effects besides divine metal being slightly less powerful as adamantine.

I can confirm that this is still happening in 1.06 and 1.07 (haven't made a 1.08 world yet). I had a visitor (maybe dwarven? maybe some other civ? who knows) spawn on the edge of my map and explode in a roughly 25x25 fireball because he was wearing a pair of liquid fire gloves. He was instantly turned to ash, but the liquid fire gloves remained on the ground (no screenshots or logs available unfortunately).

One thing that might be pertinent: for all of the dwarven civs I've played so far (4 or 5), dwarf caravans sometimes bring fire snakes, and they can be packed in embark. If they have access to fire snakes then they should be able to make liquid fire, and then that material appears to be used as a leather, which has no consequences to the world until they gen into an active fort, whereupon their liquid fire clothing items explode. Neither fire snakes nor liquid fire can be *ordered* from the mountainhomes (unless they're fish? I don't think I looked there...), but they do seem to have it anyway:

Thanks, I'll have a second look at the fire snakes. Thought that was a dud, but it should be easy to fix since I now know what it is.

Fire snakes should be vermins and I thought that is prevented them from being brought at embark.

Civs can bring vermins. They dont appear at the right column with the big creatures, they have an entry on the left with all the other items. If the civ has vermins, there is a "pet" entry, showing all the vermins you can take.

I used that previously to buy silkworms and the like.
