I feel as though every time I design a tavern or temple, there's a bit too much of "me" shining through in the interior design. While I appreciate these new locations, I wish it was possible for them to show the personality of the dwarves a bit more. Now that commissions can be made for very specific art objects, would it be possible to have a setting for locations that allows the dwarves assigned to work them to make some of these design choices? I think it'd be amazing for my dragon-loving bartender to fill his bar with dragon statues and tapestries, or for a temple's high priest to fill a temple dedicated to a death god with bone carvings. Even small things like demanding the furniture or floor tiles be a specific rock or wood or metal would really help give these places a unique feel. Yes, I could do all this manually, researching each dwarf's preferences, but this seems like a perfect case to let dwarven AI shine through, and it'd give new purpose to the currently obnoxious Mandates system.
Oh, and librarians can ask for nice comfy chairs or something too, I guess.
In my ideal vision of this, locations you create would become largely autonomous. The player would no longer be able to designate or build anything in a space designated a location. All they could do would be to assign dwarves to oversee them. I realize it's slightly heretical, but having the dwarves place the tables, chairs, objet d'art, and even stockpiles would make these locations into charming and surprising ant farms. How viable that is, however, is probably a different story...
