Frequency of sieges.
« on: January 30, 2008, 04:54:00 pm »

This is just a poll asking how often you folks get sieges. I am curious, because in one year I hosted two goblin sieges (one in Summer and one in Autumn, just after the caravan arrived), which seemed very unusual, since back in 2D Dwarf Fortress they came maybe once every 18 months. What are your experiences?

I once had three sieges in rapid succession, practically one each season. My military managed to hold them off decently well from the first and nearly was over-run in the second. By the time the third arrived my entrances had bars on levers to keep them out and my dwarves in.

The sieges started to peter out after a while. I haven't had one in about a year and a half.

In the old version, one of my fortresses had sieges practically every other season, showing no signs of letting up.

My old fort, however, only a random siege every 3 years or so. Hardly frequent at all, and it seems like they know they will just lose.

My current fort is several years old, thriving, and has seen exactly one tiny goblin siege.  I just closed the doors and they buggered off after a while.  Aside from them, no bad guys have turned up.  The surroundings are Serene.
I've previously seen many more sieges (on forts worth far less), so I'm wondering if their frequency is tied to the type of surroundings at all, as my last forts were on evil land.

I just got at least 2 sieges in year 1058.  In fact, the second was weird because there was no "vile force of darkness" message.  I just loaded the game and I started getting job cancellation messages due to goblins.  Double-checking the announcements confirmed there was no warning.
