Hi! I been playing Dwarf Fortress for a while before I joined the forums. About a month, I think. I wanted to play Dwarf Fortress ever since a year ago, but it was so buggy. Now I played it with a LNP, and I had lots of fun game overs to my fortresses.
-My first "Game Over":
*I started a fortress somewhere near a river*
*Lots and lots of alligators (about a dozen)
*I didn't know how to set up a military and fight them with my seven dwarves
*Instant Game Over
What I learned from that experience: Losing is fun
-My second "Game Over":
*I started near a river again
*I immediately set up a plump helmet farm
*The plump helmets were not getting harvested
*Vermin ate them
*Instead of looking up for help, I kept letting my dwarves replant them
*Things kept repeating until I ran out of plump helmet spawns
*Built a butcher's shop and killed all my animals for meat
*Meat not being moved to wagon
*Tried to wait for a caravan
*Watch my dwarves die of starvation slowly
*Game Over
What I learned from that experience: I needed a food stockpile, duh.
-My Third "Game Over":
*Things were going good, got a nice plump helmet farm, constantly brewing dwarven wine, a small dormatory, migrants came in.
*A wild Weretortoise appeared!
*No traps to defend my fortress
*Military was only a squad of 1 axedwarf, 1 hammerdwarf, and 3 wrestlers.
*Finally got the weretortoise killed with the loss of two wrestlers
*Much later, two of my dwarves turned into werecreatures, and conveniently, they were my only axedwarf and hammerdwarf
*Nobody could defend themselves
*Game Over
What I learned from this experience: I needed a hospital and traps as soon as I can make them cause I'm never gonna know what will happen next.
I had some more game overs. But right now, I have a successful fortress with a mayor, a queen, lots of weapons, and breeding dogs for war training.
