Wagon Falling?
« on: October 15, 2007, 11:03:00 am »

lol...

My trade depot is nowheres near the chasm, it's right at the gate!

This was engraved in my "Hall of Heroes" - each year gets a room, bigger each year: 5x5 room as base, each year adds one 5x5 room. It is from year seven. The dead from that year only are buried inside.

No sieges yet, as you can see, no more than 3 deaths a year. Yeah, this fort is getting boring, lol. I am sure goblins will come soon...

If only my dwarves lives were so uneventful as to show wagons falling on their engravings  :)

Usually it's closer to the boatmurder "Dwarf is in the fetal position." "The demon is striking down the dwarf" etc  :) Then again I play exclusively on maps with nasty critters.

I believe that engraving is referring to the destruction of a human wagon.

I realize it is a Human wagon that 'died' somehow (yeah I know they are defined as creature, atm) but I can't figure out where it would have fallen... unless... nah, the outside river wasn't frozen, it was summer, and in a scorching environment, so it didn't freeze even in winter... so it couldn't have fallen in the river, unless, maybe... the wagon dodged an attack and fell into the river... wolves and such, ya know.

Dunno, it's odd. And the first 'Wagon' engraving i've ever seen!

I've gotten lots of those after human caravans get obliterated by sieges.

I don't think falling is taken quite literally. Or perhaps it is. Wagons are a few feet off the ground, and if you smash off one or both of the wheels it'll fall to the ground, or even tip over.

Either way, it's part of their flavor text. In the legends, they have "was built" instead of "was born", and "was scuttled" instead of "was killed". And for engraving case, "is falling" rather than "is dead" or "is being struck down by the X"

While a few engravings are caused by events I think that quite a few are caused by too much time on the booze, Ive found pictures of ogres smiting dwarves on maps without ogres etc. having the gobs crush a human caravan will turn up heaps of wagon engravings (W).

Blasphemy!

If that isn't your first fortress in this world, it could be from an event in an entirely different fort.
