Giant Elephant worth the trouble?

I just traded for a giant elephant.
Is it worth pasturing the beast in hopes of getting a breeding pair in the future?
Is it even possible to keep these alive in a pasture?
If I remember correctly a regular elephant will starve in a max sized pen. Should I just butcher the big guy or is there another way to viably keep an giant elephant around?

It's changed.  A 10x10 pen should be fine, probably even smaller.  I have a giant rhino living happily on 40 squares with plenty of green all the time.

Giant elephants i dunno but ive had no trouble keeping elephants rhinos and other large grazers alive for an extended time in pastures the last couple versions.
