Inconsistency with nobles in the army
« on: May 30, 2016, 09:28:19 am »

TL;DR version:
Why nobles (a king in my situation) can't be leaders of squads? Is it a bug or an intended behaviour?

Full story:
In a custom full-on evil-savage pocket world I play a dying dwarven civ. In an effort to build a new mountainhome for their steel-clad bretheren outmatched with goblin fertility rates, a brave seven of dwarves strikes the earth in an evil biome with fever-inducing rain. Among them - a young hammerdwarf, the protector of this expedition. After a few new migrants join the ranks of the fortress' militia, he is ellected to be their commanging oficer. Soon, after a several years of peaceful fortress growth, he is elected King of the dwarven nation. Naturally, now he should lead his people and his squadmates into even more glorious battles, but alas - he cannot be appointed to be a squadleader, as an ancient customs forbids it under fear of getting the blasphemer's beard shaved off.
Why on Earth should anybode be so cruel as to forbid the people's king lead the mighty dwarven armies to victory?

I don't know the actual answer to your question, sorry.  I do know that when a dwarf is elevated to king the noble screen temporarily goes berserk, but given some time everything returns to normal and nobles/offices can be assigned as usual.  I assume this applies to military leaders as well.

If that's not the problem, well then consider this a friendly bump as I'm a little curious too.
