Mac/Intell User Needs help ...

Ok so I've downloaded the Mac / Intel version.  I open the DF file ... and I get a Terminal code entry screen ...

I am running Mac OS 10.11.3 from a MacMini ...

How do I start the game or access the right screen play??

DF should show up too. Is there an error message in the terminal window?

There was a typo in the siegers' campfire code. When the fires went out, so did the game.

Could you maybe be trying to open "dwarfort.exe" instead of "df"? You have to launch Dwarf Fortress from the "df" script.

MstrPBK,

I run DF on Mac OSX El Capitan and had issues the first time I tried to open it.  This is what I did:

1) I had to download XQuartz (I got it from here), because X11.app (which DF needs) is no longer supported in the newer operating systems.
   Result: DF now opens (you can hear the music), but you can't see the window.

2) Play around with the [PRINT_MODE] setting (located in the init file, not the d_init file).  For me, [PRINT_MODE:STANDARD] worked (the default is [PRINT_MODE:2D]). 
   Result: I can now see and interact with the DF window, as normal.

Disclaimer: There is no guarantee that this will work with your operating system, it's just what happened to work on mine.

DF actually doesn't need X11 or XQuartz - it just needs Freetype, which happens to be included in those, but is also included in newer versions of SDL_ttf. There are instructions for getting a newer SDL_ttf on the wiki or on the bug tracker.

Of course, installing XQuartz works too, so if that's easier to figure out (even though it requires more time and admin privileges), go for it.

Hi,
DF actually doesn't need X11 or XQuartz - it just needs Freetype.
I did not know this, the error message that came up led me to X11 (XQuartz only took ~5 minutes to download and install, so not too bad), nothing about Freetype.  I have now made a note.

Yeah, OS X assumes that anything that tries to access Freetype needs X11/XQuartz, it seems. Either method should solve the problem, though.
