I'm level 12.  Played a fair number of games at this point, and I'm almost always top score on my team.

My impression so far is that game balance hinges completely on the coordination of the vampire team.  If the vampires don't use their cc abilities successfully and force the hunters to divide, they are easily beaten.  But if they do, there's not much the hunters can do about it.

No complaints otherwise, for an F2P game.  Will it remain free when it's out of Open Beta?

Been playing a bit. It really is a great game, but there are a few problems. Partially due to the small team size, the winner is more often than not decided by not having that guy who's never used a keyboard before and ends up going 1-8 with 2000 damage. I've played about 40 games, and I'd guess only 5 of those had a team where everybody was at a basic competence level and someone wasn't less than useless. It reminds me of MOBAs in that respect, since it is very common to have one player throw the game, but the matches are quick enough that it's not nearly as agonizing.

People also disconnect constantly, and the matchmaking is somewhat notorious for taking way longer than it should to find a match. I think they may have gotten some of the kinks out recently, though. It seems fairly balanced, but I'd say Team Edward is way better at a low skill level than the Hoomans, while the Hoomans are better at a higher skill level when the stars align and everybody plays well.

The economy is interesting, way more so than I believed at first glance. At first I thought it was going to be a slog to get all the necessary items without spending money, just judging from gold/match and the costs for permanent unlocks, but there's actually an additional random element. Leveling up classes provides free stuff periodically, and others drop randomly like in TF2's system. At first I was planning on maximizing gold spending by never renting stuff, but it turns out that you could very well spend 1500 gold on something that you'll just get another (sometimes better) copy of later. It makes me think renting is actually better than buying anything permanently, except for stuff that doesn't drop.

All random dropped weapons seem to have some minor stat differences, with some having a "charge" bar (not sure how that works yet), while others are leveled up by earning experience with it equipped. So if you do play this, I wouldn't recommend spending gold on permanent unlocks that can be obtained through drops, since sooner or later, you'll get a random one for free. So far all the classes I've tried can be played competively either stock or with one item change (Alchemist, Prophet, Hunter, Reaver, Tyrant, Sentinel), so items aren't even strictly necessary to be credit to team.

Old topic, but couldn't find a newer one. I find that strange-- did we really not have an active topic for this?

Anyway, Nosgoth got cancelled. Can't say I'm surprised (nobody wanted this game to begin with) but it is always sad when a project fails, especially when it represented the last hope for a beloved series. :(

It's even more of a shame because it actually ended up pretty decent.

Yeah...kinda rare that a playable game actually gets cancelled these days. Usually they just shove out 1.0 and then disappear, suckling on the trickle of steam monies they get over the next few years.

Sounds like they deserve some polite appluase, then.

Any way to get it off my Steam library then? Never installed it, never showed interest.

Set it to the "Hidden" game category in Steam. Not quite getting rid of it but you can get it off your game list.
