My teacher challanged me to synthisisze methanol, any ideas on how? is it even possible?

What kind of equipment do you have?
What kind of compounds do you have on hand? Do you have to start from carbon, oxygen and hydrogen, or are you able to use methane?
How pure do you want to get it? Is just having it with a lot of other stuff mixed in fine?
Finally, if your aim is to produce a small quantity to show off some skill in synthesis, your approach will differ from one you would use to obtain it in somewhat bulk for further usage as a solvent.
