Set any order to Auto
« on: March 30, 2016, 10:52:22 am »

A theory.  What if you could set any workshop order to Auto, like looms and butchers do?

So I could, for example, set a particular smelter to Auto smelt steel bars.  The workshop would automatically wait until the four ingredients, flux, iron, pig iron and fuel, are available, and not cancel the order if any ingredient becomes unavailable.

"Standing Production Orders" has been on the development page for a while now, and Toady has made some passing mention in 2015 that he'd be getting around to it, "soon".  Since Standing Production Orders would mean you could set triggers for things being automatically added to production queue, (including, presumably "any time you have material") that would encompass the functionality you're specifically asking for, here.

In the meantime, try DF Hack, which has Stockflow and Workflow.

Personally, I like [DF] because after climbing the damned learning cliff, I'm too elitist to consider not liking it.
