Made-Up Names Thread
« on: November 12, 2016, 12:35:23 pm »

Post the odd nicknames you've made for things like actions, individuals, groups, etc.

Here's a few examples:

Fallout New Vegas's Powder Gangers - (The) Powder Gangsters

Fallout New Vegas's New California Republic - (The) National Cash Register (From it-he.org)

Fallout New Vegas's Caesar's Legion - Legion (No titles, just "Legion") OR Bunch of Misogynistic Pricks Who'd Save Me A Lot Of Trouble If They Stuck Their Swords Up Their Sphincters.

World of Warships:
Nougato - Nagato, one of the softer Tier VII battleships. She's soft and chewy compared  to Colorado and Gneisenau.
Nicenow - Gneisenau, a bully because she can tank very well. "Be nice now."
Friedrice the Gross - Tier IX German Battleship.
Grosser Curryfist - Tier X German Battleship.

Rainbow Factory - Cleveland, because of her high shell arc.

I would like to point out that, though it did kind of die, this thread exists.

Edit - Wait a second, YOU made that thread, AzyWng! What's going on here?

That explains why it's still the same thread instead of being, like, "What did you name your characters?"
Huh, apparently I never posted in it. Probably because of the way it was worded. I don't give weird nicknames to things. I mean, I borrowed "Captain Quantum" (for Captain Archer of Enterprise) from TWOP reviews of the show, but that's the only one I'm recalling right now.

That said, when I played Star Trek Online, I named all my starships after strong female characters in the Buffyverse. (Buffy, Faith, Willow, Anya, Illyria... Actually, I think I used Willow twice, naming a ship "Darth Rosenberg.")

I name almost any female character "Ina". It's cute, short to type, and took a while to come up with. I'm quite proud of it.

Any small fast-moving enemy is a "wiggly squiggly, dude" in my mind. It's from one of PBG's Minecraft Hardcore series, when a team member was obliterated by a baby zombie pigman that Dean called a "wiggly squiggly".

All those dwarves that have no useful skill, and that don't like something I consider useful for a moodable skill are named "Honk". If someone has a weapon skill and and I have no open positions (due to a lack of equipment) their nickname will be their weapon skill. Those that have the prerequisite to be good soldiers will be named "recruit" until they learned their weapon skill. Then they will be named after their weapon.
DF, obviously

Dangit, you got me.

I guess the main thing is that I was too lazy to 1) Search for the thread and necro it and 2) Check the forum's necro policy to see if doing so was or wasn't okay.

Isn't Powder Gangsters an actual name that the one guy in Primm uses?

Indeed, but I hadn't heard the line until I'd made up the name myself.

I got an oldie

The... military guy in Goldeneye 64.  He was one of the guys you could pick from in multiplayer mode.  Well anyway, he had some kind of russian name.  But to us, he was:

Captain Kill

Not terribly innovative, I'll give you that, but I still name characters after him to this day.

Also, in heroes, Clair's father was called "HRG" for "horn rimmed glasses" by much of the community.  But to me and my wife, he was:

EvilDad

I still prefer our nickname.  Even if he did turn out a bit less evil than he originally appeared.

Now a couple quickies:
Kevin McAlister from home alone: "Home Alone"
Bruce Willis from die hard: "Die Hard"

To this day if I see McCauley Colkin (I know that's gotta be spelled wrong) I just say "Look! It's home alone!"

My wife absolutely hates it, and that only makes it funnier to me.  I'm kind of an idiot like that.
