Hassle Free Pumpstacks
« on: February 18, 2016, 04:16:58 pm »

After too many collapsed pumpstacks due to a designer's random desire for cheese mid-job I finally found out how to build them safely.  What you have to do is build towards your anchor point, not away.  They'll work on the last-designed screwpump first, then move away.  Suspending and resuming wont help.  So if you have materials for 100 screwpumps, and want to build down to magma at z-100:

Build a gear mechanism at z-0, let it complete.
Pause, hold your breath.
Design a gear mechanism at z-100.
Design a screwpump at z-100.
Design a screwpump at z-99
...
Design a screwpump at z-1.
Design a screwpump at z-0.
Remove gear mechanism design at z-100.
Resume, take a breath, and rest assured that they'll work from the top down, and any interruption wont cause it to crash down.

*edit* NEVERMIND, DOESNT WORK.

I use extra horizontal axle adjacent to the walkable tile on each level and it's enough to designate / build each level without collapse
