Sculpture gardens/Memorials in 42.xx
« on: February 23, 2016, 01:09:13 pm »

Since taverns, temples and libraries rolled in, it seems like sculpture gardens and memorial halls became... almost invisible for our bearded minions.
I had 4 quite a succesful forts since release of 42v, but in every one of them the same problem occured - 99% idling dwarves just refuse to meet in sculpture gardens. If there's temple, inn, or library in the fort - they always aim for one of them, not even noticing lavish gardens I had prepared for them.
Yeah, I know, it's really not that big of a deal - but on the other hand, a happy thought from well-made gold statue, artifact adamantine cabinet with cabachons made of elf bone, or conveniently placed magmafall waterfall is always a good thing for a dwarf. Especially since it looks like that having contact with such furniture fulfils the need for admiring an art in new need system.

Anyone can relate?

I've seen dwarves hang out in a memorial hall since 42.XX came out, but I'm not sure if I had a tavern, library, or temple in that fort.

You could always build your blingy statue or waterfall inside your tavern.

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

I always found it odd that libraries have to be defined from dining rooms/meeting halls. A library should, imo, be a place of quiet and certainly not a place of eating. The same goes, in my eyes, for a temple (although the DF idea of a temple is more of a music - dancing kind of thing than our western churches, of course).  It would be neat if one could define libraries off sculpture gardens, and maybe temples off tombs.

I don't know if it works for libraries, but you can turn off meeting in a temple's zones once they're associated with the location and dwarves will still use them for stress-relieving prayer. That's what I do for the tiny "chapels" I litter my forts with when I want to restrict organized rituals to settings more appropriate for a god.
