Locking floor hatch
« on: January 18, 2016, 10:01:46 am »

In my bloody fortress Boatdell, after 3 weremammouth who killed 60 dwarfs, a forgotten beast is rampaging my barrack on the cavern. So to countain it i set the floor hatches on closed on the stairs, for dwarfs and pets. I have 60 dwarfs left. Then some dwarfs go throught the floor hatches in a suicidal quest for hauling some rotten corpses.

Some of the floor hatches are now passable. I close them again, and this happen again. 30 more dwarfs dead ... So how to lock definively ? I think it works like doors, but i have never had such problem with doors.

To stop your dwarves from collecting bodies press "o" and then "g."

If an object like a stone or vermin remains is on the same tile as a floor hatch, it'll stay open, even if it is set to forbidden.

Also (from memory) d-b-f. (?) I.e. designate-forbid. Designate across multiple z-levels (it's possible to do this)

Forbid *everything* in the caverns.  Fix it selectively later.

Also turn off auto-collect webs.

Are you sure you're not confusing floor hatches with doors?

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
